However, the Middle Eastern or Egyptian "style" mx made the station sound like it could well be Cairo. But what really makes it appear to be Radio Cairo, is the wildly distorted and overmodulating audio. Unable to confirm topics, as I am unable to understand Islandic. Although the transmission heard was in usb, and did end at approx 23.33 utc, (sched. 23.00 - 23.35 utc), I didn't detect an ID so I have logged it as presumed. / Note: This frequency is also alleged to be used by "Friendship Radio" for test transmissions from international waters, but I have yet to hear the station myself and remain scepitcal of it's authenticity...? Mainly praying for Iraq when I first tuned in. / Listened quietly for a while, in hopes of hearing some form of ID, but I fell asleep instead. I awoke just prior to 01.00 utc to the noise of a very powerful Radio Slovakia on 5930 kHz opening their English to America b'cast and causing strong QRM. Not exactly a true "pirate" station, but BBC Essex playing at pirate radio for a week and "originating" their b'casts from the LV18 lightship, off the coast of Harwich. This logging is no real exception. With a very high level of QRM swamping an already weak signal, I only barely managed to hear mention of prog - "Postcard from Alaska".
